When Bunnies Invade

I moved into my first home.  That's a HUGE, HUGE deal and I'm incredibly thankful and excited about this milestone.  I moved from NY to VA for affordable housing in the first place so my dream of homeownership has come true.  Yay!  That is one reason why I've been absent from this blog.  My days and nights have been consumed with several different life events and now that the move is complete I have some free time again.  Double yay!  Except for when I'm painting walls and ceilings.  I should be doing that now, but...

Now, for the bunny invasion.  The previous owners had two large pit bulls.  I'm guessing the neighborhood bunnies were terrified of them and didn't come into our fenced yard for fear of their lives.

As an aside, whenever I hear or see the word 'pit bull' I think of THE Pitbull (rapper).

Anyway, now that this yard is dog-free there is a slow and steady bunny invasion taking place.  They are sitting in the yard.  They are pooping in the yard.  They come up to my glass back door and peer in.  When I say 'come up to the door' I mean they are ON TOP of the glass and looking at me.  They are digging burrows and moving in.  Forget about a garden.  That was our plan - a nice veggie and herb garden.  How will this be possible?

I already have finches living in the one hanging flower basket that I own.  Trying to water the petunias so that they don't die when there is a giant nest and freaked out birds in the way isn't easy, I can tell you that much.  Now I have to contend with the bunnies.  They are cute but...

By the way, I haven't seen one squirrel.  I have no explanation for this.  Where are they?!
